Bangladesh Bank Posts Tk 26,000cr Profit in FY26

Bangladesh Bank recorded a net profit of Tk 26,023 crore in the 2025-26 fiscal year, marking a 15 percent rise from the previous year. The profit was largely driven by lending to commercial banks and strong returns from foreign exchange reserve investments, according to officials.

The board of directors, chaired by Governor Md Mostaqur Rahman, approved the financial statements at a meeting today. The central bank reported a gross profit of Tk 35,016 crore, with expenditures amounting to Tk 8,993 crore. Of the earnings, Tk 25,977 crore was handed over to the government.

In line with tradition, the board also sanctioned an incentive bonus equivalent to six months of basic salary for all employees, continuing the practice from last year.

Officials noted that borrowing by both the government and commercial banks increased amid declining revenue, boosting the central bank’s interest income. Investments of foreign reserves in overseas markets also contributed significantly to the profit surge.

Bank insiders explained that Bangladesh Bank typically earns higher profits during economic downturns, as borrowing rises, while profits tend to shrink when the economy performs strongly.
